The Neuromatch Impact Scholars Program provides aspiring scientists with the opportunity to continue and expand upon the research projects they started during our courses (Computational Neuroscience, Deep Learning, NeuroAI) for six months after the end of the Academy.
The program aims to:
- Address the demand within our Neuromatch community for immersive research experiences that extend beyond the short-term projects completed during the course.
- Enhance scholars’ computational research skills and knowledge in specific sub-domain of neuroscience, deep learning, and NeuroAI
Program Features
The program includes resources to support the participants’ research and professional development.
- 💻Computing resources. Selected groups will have continued access to computing resources for six months after the end of the Academy, with the possibility of extension if they and their mentor aim to work towards a peer-reviewed publication.
- 📝 Citable micropublication. At the end of the program, scholars will write up their results in a micropublication, which will be publicized on the program website and assigned a DOI. They will also have the opportunity to share their work in their native language to increase its impact in their community.
- 🗣️ Seminar presentation. Scholars will give a 20-minute virtual seminar at the end of the program, which will be advertised on Neuromatch social media and recorded for subsequent sharing on the course website.
- 🦉 Mentorship. We endeavor to match every team to a suitable mentor who connects with the scholars synchronously and asynchronously at least twice a month and provides feedback on their research outputs.
- 🧑🤝🧑Community support. There will be regular check-ins from the program organizers on the #isp-community forum channel on the Neuromatch Discord Community Server for CN, DL and NeuroAI for participants to share both successes and struggles.
Timeline
The Neuromatch Impact Scholar Program cohorts last approximately 6 months and take place after our July courses.
Eligibility
In order to apply, you must:
-
- have completed the most recent Neuromatch Academy 2024 courses as a student or a Teaching Assistant.
-
- Meet the criteria for a course completion certificate, signifying successful completion of both tutorials and projects.
Apply
Applications open during our July courses and will be open to people within the Discord community.
Application Process
1. Expression of Interest
During the final project sessions of the course, students and TAs are invited to indicate whether they are interested in continuing their research project together with more computing resources after the course ends.
2. Project proposal
Project teams will collaboratively build a two page proposal and submit it by the application deadline.
The strongest proposals will:
-
- Build on Existing Work or Outline New Directions:
- Directly build on, and be supported by, analyses conducted during the course and the following month;
- Build on Existing Work or Outline New Directions:
-
- Have a Clear Research Focus:
- Clearly define the research question or hypothesis.
- Specify the objectives and expected outcomes of the project.
- Have a Clear Research Focus:
-
- Demonstrate Broader Relevance and Impact:
- Explain the significance of the research within its field.
- Highlight the potential broader impacts of the project, such as advancements in knowledge, practical applications, or contributions to societal challenges.
- Demonstrate Broader Relevance and Impact:
3. Application decision
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We’ll get back to scholars after the proposal submission deadline has passed.
